Nothing Much to Say

I haven't written since my birthday. Geesh, that's been two weeks ago. Nothing much has happened really. I did go to Charlotte, NC for a(n) Heritage Makers meeting.

I'm a consultant for Heritage Makers, you can check out my website at www.storybookpros.com . This is really cool. You can sign up for a free account as well. Maria--you'll totally love this.

You can take your digital photos and scrapbook them into hardcover library bound (stitched) books. They really are nice. If I can figure out how to put my kids' book in my blog, I'll link it out. I think that upgrade comes out on May 12th.

Tha whole mission of the company is to create and publish stories that will last forever. When I go to my parents' house this summer, I plan on collecting as many photos of my deceased brother as I can. I'm going to write "his" book so that my children will know who their uncle is. I'm looking forward to it, eventhough I know my eyes will tear and I'll get choked up because I miss him. He's been gone for 18 years now, but it's still feels so raw at times.

Because I was serving a mission at the time of his death, I didn't come home. I didn't get to see him and close it all out. I think I have struggled because of that lack of closure, expecially the first couple of years right after he died. I believe writing his story will help me put it where it belongs. I often feel his spirit close by. Even now, my eyes water because I miss him.

So, that's just part of what this business is about. You can design and publish your own greeting cards, calendars and posters along with the books.

The other cool thing about this business is that Sam has a 10 station computer (mac) training center. I'll be using that to hold digi-scrapping nights/classes. I had the Young Women over last night for them to create Mother's Day cards. Everyone had a really good time. It does get quite addictive. We're going to call that aspect Digi-Scrap n Scan. I'm working on a website for that. Though the learning curve is quite steep on the website design software....for me, that is.

Ok, time for bed. Tomorrow the kids have their Jr. Master Gardening class. It's been a good opportunity for them to do something in a classroom setting and they're meeting other children their ages.

My birthday continued

So, after I wrote the first post for my birthday, life just got really exciting. My poor little Leah fell off her bike and the cement won the fight. She busted open her little lip and that stringy thing up in the inside of your top lip. You can see how big it swelled. It's actually worse in person.

She cried for about 45 mins which is very unlike her. Once the Tylenol started working, she fell asleep for a few minutes before we had to leave and take Lucy to singing lessons.

Singing lessons, then the bank and onto Deptford High School to vote in school board/tax increase elections. Back home to get ready for Robbie's baseball game. Sarah Blamires stopped by with a plate of the most INCREDIBLE chocolate cake I've ever been priviledged to inhale. Boy oh boy. I saved a few pieces that I will eat in the privacy of my own little world.

THANK YOU Sarah!!!

Off to the baseball game. Not such a good one. They tied after losing a huge lead.

We went to Ruby Tuesday's for dinner because I refused to eat frozen pizza for my birthday dinner.

When we got home, Leah had another fall. She must have tripped getting out of the truck. She ended up with the biggest goose egg I've even seen. So, you'll now be able to see the final outcome Leah's injuries. She looks like she's had the snot beat out of her. She had a rough day.

My poor little Leah. Sleeping on her daddy after a very long and painful day.

What Leah Says

Yub-oo = Love You

Hah-no = I don't know

D D = Lucy

Eda = Leah

Gamma = Gramma

Gampa = Grampa

dubba-doo = W

kank-oo = Thank You

Bop-u-top = Bop to the Top = High School Musical

My Birthday

So today I enter my 5th decade. Amazing really. I think about the fact that I've only experienced 40 winters, 40 springs, summers and autumns. It doesn't seem like a lot. 40 Christmases may seem like a whole bunch to my children, but to me I hope I have atleast that many more plus a few extra for good behavior.

Sam and the children got up at 7 this morning to cook me breakfast. It was delivered in bed. Scrambled eggs, bacon, toast with jam and a glass of milk. Not a bad breadfast. Leah crawled up on the bed and ate most of my eggs, the boys each took a piece of bacon and I think everyone helped drain my cup of milk.

Sam gave me two fabulous cookbooks. They're out of print now so the only way to find them is online. He did it. They're self-reliant related. Which I love! He also gave me a beautiful diamond journey necklace. It's really pretty with both baguettes and round stones. Very thoughtful of him.

So, off to work he went. The older kids went out and started cleaning out another of my garden beds. That is better than a diamond necklace for me. :)

Right now, I'm just hanging out with Leah. She wants to spell her name on the computer. leah--there ya go, that was her. She actually knows all of the letters of the alphabet. Upper case and lower case. Kinda amazing I think. I didn't do it. I think she learned from her older brothers and sisters.

I'll update more as the day goes along.

Happy Birthday to me!

Spring Day

Leah's headed in for a "bap". (bath)
Joey blowing bubbles.

Lucy riding her bike.
It was a beautiful day today. Started a little cold but by mid afternoon it was splendid. I took the kids outside and had them weed one of my garden beds. Something got done. Robbie and Lucy planted peas in their little bed. I put some peas in myself.
It was lovely to hear them recall how fun and yummy it is to eat peas fresh from the pod while standing in the garden. What a lovely tradition and memory they'll pass on to their children. My mom passed that one on to me. I'm sure it goes back in time with my fabulous ancestors. Isn't it fabulous to know that what they planted to survive, we now plant to eat as a good memory.

Joey: "Ow, that hit me w-ight in the cwotch! You aimed that wight for my cwotch. See mommy", pointing to his cwotch, "I told you that I needed a cup."

Future Me and ShopRite

Anymore, I go through my day observing and thinking about what I can write in my blog. So, today I hit on a pretty good one.

I went shopping with the kids....that should be the end and you should be rolling on the floor laughing or ROFL as we say in our cyber world. But, it really gets just a bit better than that.

We went to KFC/A&W for lunch. I met my older self. Oh my...so sad. Luckily I can change the future. Her name might have been Harriet or Gloria, I don't really know. It doesn't really matter. She was behind the counter at KFC running the cash register.

My first observation came when some girl familar with ALL of the KFC staff though not in uniform mentioned that John McCain was on The View today. (note: I am NOT a McCain supporter nor am I a The View supporter) At this point my children interrupted me with desires of hotdogs, drumsticks, french fries and soda. So annoying. So, I caught the tail end of the the McCain discussion when Harriet/Gloria said, "That's RIGHT. THIS WHOLE COUNTRY IS GOING TO BE RUN BY SENIOR CITIZENS BECAUSE ALL OF OUR LITTLE BOYS ARE OUT...." I'm sure it was a comment about the war, which I do support. At this point, I was interrupted by my little boys.

Now, why do I said that this "Harria" lady is my "future me"? Well, because she had no problem announcing her political views to the entire KFC; when I went to place my order, she kept reprimanding my children and when her shift ended at 2PM, she said "Good Night" to everyone.

That's me to a tee. The good thing was that she was skinny and didn't have any gray hair. I've got that going for the "future me".

Like I said, I still have time to change.

Ok, so onto ShopRite (a grocery store). Four kids in tow. Leah was still eating her Teddy Grahams so that kept her in the cart for about 5 minutes while I taught the kids how to feel up a cantaloupe to tell if it was ripe. 1pt for homeschooling. Then I had to give her my iPhone to keep her busy. That didn't work as well as it usually did.

We did pretty good until I had to get laundry detergent which was FREE after coupons. YAY for me! I had to help Robbie climb up a pyramid of empty detergent cases to get to the two I needed. Then the ShopRite lady came over and fussed at me. But, if they were doing their job we wouldn't have been doing that. Plus, it was much easier to hoist Robbie up the pyramid than myself. Not a pretty picture.

Robbie wrote notes to passers-by in the icy fog of the Eggo section of the freezer. Yeh, we were there long enough for icy fog to show up. There are Barbie Eggos now. But there are only 8 in a box unlike the 10/box of the regular buttermilk or even chocolate chip kind. Guess which kind we bought. .25/box after coupons. Another Yay for me!

Got the Eggos, now back to get the paper towels.

Got the paper towels and we head up the TP aisle. Not really a problem until I turn my attention away for just a sec to recapture Leah. As I head up the aisle the other three have beaten me to the end and to bide their time waiting for me to catch up they have stuck MULTIPLE toilet plungers to the cold tile floor, under which I would have liked to have crawled. We wrestle the plungers back to their resting spot and head for the check out.

That's about it. Believe it or not, I didn't even have to buy them candy going through the check out. That's a win-win for me any day of the week.

That's it for this installment of insanity.

Something so funny....but please don't say anything

Ok, so...Sam's been working extra super hard. Which means I'm with the kids a lot more than normal. Which means, I've been the ever-so-lucky one to be the baseball mom with Robbie. I took him to his tryouts and practices. I've been the one to buy his glove.

Monday night Rob's coach came over to give him his uniform. Robbie's playing for the Yankees this year. Ok, cool. I like the coach a lot.

In the process of telling Robbie how to wear his uniform and what is expected, the subject wearing a "cup" was mentioned. We've been talking about this but learned that it was mandated that Robbie had to wear one during the games and practice. So.....

Because Sam has been working such long hours, guess who got to go "cup" shopping? YUP, me. Ok, so this is a whole new world of underwear.

For those of y'all ladies who don't know how the whole thing gets put together, here ya go. We went to Sports Authority, I thought Dick's would be a little, uh, redundant....it took us a while to find the athletic supporters. But, once found, I was ok.

What I learned is that you have the "cup" itself which is a hard shell to cover the goods and then you have to buy the pouchy thing that the cup goes in. That's the funky looking one cup, backwards bra---or training bra for a boy--that hooks up over that cute little bum.

This is the part that you can't tell anyone...especially not Robbie. He was SOOOOO excited. He came straight home and tried it out OVER his sweatpants. Oh my gosh. I laughed so hard. I tried to get a pic of the sight, but he wouldn't let me. I was going to post on the blog. Visuals are the best. Today he decided that to get used to it, he would wear it all day. He kept "knocking" on it just for fun and everyone's delight.

It sure is fun being a mom. Especially when I don't know what the heck I'm doing.
